Friday, March 29, 2013 – Karachi—The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday constituted a special bench to hear a case over no-go areas’ reports in Karachi.

A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan will begin the proceeding over the news reports pertaining to no-go areas in the country’s financial hub at Karachi registry on Friday. The court has also issued a notice to Sindh Advocate General to file report.—INP

NIB Bank – Recovery Staff Of the Bank Threats to Customers.

In 2009, the SBP barred banks from sending loan recovery agents to people’s homes or from talking to their families, and instructed them to be polite at all times in dealing with customers.

This followed widespread outrage at the banks after a Karachi citizen, Rana Atif, committed suicide in April 2008 apparently because he was threatened by aggressive loan recovery agents.

The Sindh High Court had taken notice of the incident and directed the SBP to restrain commercial banks from harassing customers.

But private banks are not following the SBP’s instructions, according to customers.

Majeed Malik said he had been receiving threatening phone calls from his bank for the last two months for not paying his credit card bill on time. “They have made my life hell. The last time they used very harsh words and threatened me,” he said.

Farooq Shah, another credit card user, said a bank staffer visited his house. “I was not at home when the official came and he was very rude to my family,” he said.

Consumer credit grew rapidly in Pakistan after banks began offering easy access to car, personal and credit card loans in 2002. The number of credit card users increased to seven million in 2007.

But things changed with the financial crunch in 2008, as the number of bank loan defaulters increased sharply, said banker Sadeed Malhi.

He said commercial banks were in a fix, as the central bank was pressing them to reduce non-performing loans while at the same time not allowing them to pursue aggressive strategies to recover such loans.

“If we want to intensify recovery from customers then we have to be harsh. Some people don’t understand politeness,” said banker Asif Mehmood. He said credit card loans were the most insecure loans as they were issued without guarantees, so banks had to be aggressive in recovering them.

Mehmood said customers often tried to deceive banks with “excuses” like unemployment and inflation. “People should not get credit cards if they cannot repay the loans,” he said.

Recently Mr Jamal Ashraf(Karachi) recieved the Threaten Phone calls from Nib bank representative Yasir continously and asking for the installments Mr Jamal Already talked to Zulfiqar. Now Both of them threathen to reach home. Now Mr. Jamal is Fed up with all this and taking serious action against the agents and bank.

SBP spokesman Waseemuddin said customers should file any complaints about the behaviour of commercial banks in writing to the central bank. He said the SBP had a special department, the Consumer Protection Department., to deal with these complaints. “We have always protected the consumer’s rights in the past and will continue to do so in the future,” he said.

 

Pakistani Domain Registrar Hacked Again

PKNIC, the domain registrar of Pakistan’s .pk domains has been reportedly hacked again this morning. A hackers group named PakBugs has claimed that they have successfully penetrated PKNIC servers and gained control of around 23,000 domains which included some of the most popular pakistani websites like Daily Jang, The News, Express News and ProPakistani etc. At the time of this writing, these sites were back to normal because the owners of the domains again changed back the DNS servers back to original ones.

PakBugs has claimed that they have complete account information of 23,000 users of PKNIC and their domains. It has also been claimed by the hackers that they are in complete control of everything being stored on PKNIC servers.

This is not the first time that PKNIC servers have been compromised. Earlier a Turkish hacker successfully managed to penetrate PKNIC servers and redirected 284 .pk domains.

PKNIC claims to have regained control of the affected domains. However, it is not confirmed at this moment that all 23,000 domains have been reclaimed. PakBugs are reportedly poisoning DNS of PKNIC and redirecting the affecting domains to their own URLs. Below is a screenshot that is appearing on affected domains.

Samsung Galaxy phones to record $8.3bn profit

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics, the world leader in mobiles and memory chips, said it likely earned a quarterly profit of $8.3 billion, as it sold close to 500 handsets a minute and as demand picked up for the flat screens it makes for mobile devices, including those for rival Apple Inc products.

That run of five straight record quarters may end in January-March on weaker seasonal demand, though a strong pipeline of smartphones – the South Korean group’s biggest earner – and improving chip prices have eased concerns that earnings growth could slow this year, powering Samsung shares to record levels last week.

The stock closed down 1.3 percent on Tuesday, in a Seoul market that fell 0.7 percent.

“Investors are a bit concerned that Samsung’s momentum may slow in the first half. The smartphone market is unlikely to sustain its strong growth as advanced markets are nearing saturation despite growth in emerging countries,” said Kim Sung-soo, a fund manager at LS Asset Management. Reuters

Source Dawn News = “The suspect could be brought back to Pakistan today after completion of legal formalities, DawnNews quoted sources as saying, whereas Inspector General Sindh Police Fayyaz Leghari claimed to have no knowledge of Jatoi’s arrest.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Jan 1, had taken notice of the murder of 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan, the son of a serving police DSP Aurangzaib and had directed the authorities to produce the accused in court.

The Sindh police acting on the orders of the Supreme Court had contacted the Interpol and had sent two of its high ranking officials to Dubai to seek Jatoi’s custody.

The three accused of Shahzeb Murder case including Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Mustafa Lashari were send to jail on 10-days judicial remand.

All the three were produced before the anti-terrorism court.

Now We are waiting for shahrukh jatoi and sikandar jatoi and need to know the facts of all and the sources how he is out from Pakistan.

Shahzaib Case Suo Moto Action By SC

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took the suo moto notice of the cold-blodded murder of the 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan, son of DSP Aurangzeb, after going through the clippings in various newspapers and has sought report from police on the matter, as the news reports stated that police has not yet arrested the killers.

The CJ has summoned Advocate General and Inspector General Sindh on January 4 in personal capacity.

Reports stated that Shahzeb Khan was killed near the Country Club within the remit of Darakhshan police station by the influential feudals when he tried to stop them from harassing his sister.

The incident has jolted the people, particularly the younger generation who are protesting the incident and demanding justice.

KARACHI: Pakistan won the 2nd ODI when they beat India by 85 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. With that win Pakistan leads the 3-match series 2-0.

Giving his nation a New Year gift, Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan took the last wicket that of Ishant Sharma who could only manage 2 runs in 12 balls.

Saeed Ajmal and Khandid the most damage with figures of 3-20 and 3-39, respectively,followed by Umar Gul with his 2-24 and Shoaib Malik 1-3. Howver, the seven-feet-one-inch Mohammad Irfan didn’t do much with the ball. He took no wickets giving away 46 runs, while Mohammad Hafeez was 1-29.

Pick of the Indian bowlers were RA Jadeja 3-41 and Ishant Sharma 3-34, respectively. B Kumar took 1-61, R Ashwin 1-49 and SK Raina 1-13.

Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshed was Man-of-the-Match for his blistering performance in both matches.

AB Dinda was lbw Umar Gul for 0. India were 155-9 at the time.

Indian captain MS Dhoni was at the crease on 54 in 89 balls making it his 9th ODI 50 against Pakistan. Howevr, that performance could not turn the drubbing around. Ishant Sharma was the last batsman out bowled by Junaid Khan on 2 (12).

India put 77-4 on the scoreboard with Yuvraj Singh lbw on 9 caught behind by wicketkeeper on a delivery by Pakistan pacer Umar Gul at the Gardens.

India were 68-3 when Virender Sehwag was lbw 31 (43) Umar Gul.

Virat Kohli was out on 6 in 9 balls caught by wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal off the bowling of Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan. Yuvraj Singh had come in to bat in place of Kohli.

India were 42-1 when Junaid Khan took the wicket of Gautam Gambhir on 11 in 25 balls. Gambhir was on 7 (13) and partner Sehwag 9 (14) when India began their innings.

Pakistan set a target of 251 to India as Nasir Jamshed and Mohammed Hafeez put on 141 for the first wicket stand.

Jamshed went into the match with his blistering form striking 106 in 124 balls with partner Hafeez scoring 76 in 74 balls.

For India, the pick of the bowlers was Ravindra Jadeja taking 3-41 in 10 overs with a madien over, while Ishant Sharma walked away with figures of 3 wickets in 9.3 overs and no maiden over.

India won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat in overcast conditions at the Gardens.

Captain MS Dhoni will now have to strategise as to how his top-order batsmen will tick.

Pakistan were unchanged from the last match, but India have replaced Rohit Sharma with Ravindra Jadeja.

The 3rd and final ODI will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on January 6.
